Crohn's Disease Flare Up

Maybe it is my diet, maybe it is stress, but I sure feel like I am entering into a flare up. Not as much stomach pain, but I feel like I spend so much time in the bathroom. Usually by now I've pulled out of it, and I haven't been on any medicine for the past couple of years, but it is starting to look like I need to find a good gastro in South Florida. Anyone have any recommendations on either pulling out of a Crohn's Disease Flare up or a good gastroenterologist in the Boca Raton area?

You should definitely see a doctor. Have you tried going on a bland soft food or even liquid diet for a day or two to give your gut a rest so to speak? This sometimes helps me through a flare.
I am on meds right now that are helping but I've also recently started a gluten free diet and it has made a very noticeable difference in reducing my everyday symptoms. If you’re interested I’ve talked about it a little bit in my blog http://crohnsliveswithme.blogspot.com/ and I follow a lot of gluten free blogs that are very helpful.
I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Scottie. I can understand your issue. My digestion was terrible. I would get these cramps that has woken me up. Then I would spend so much time in the bathroom, just like you. My doctor tells me to take more fiber. That didn't help either. I have not had any "flare ups" recently. I would have maybe 3 a month. Thank goodness! I started taking a product called Support Digestive Support. SDS is a natural product that helps with digestion, acid reflux, heartburn and elimination. SDS contains a unique probiotic blend. I took one tablespoon and 4fl oz. of water, a I noticed how different I felt after eating. No bloating and no heartburn! I love the product so much I have it shipped to me every month. I am a distributor of the product. I am also a product of the product. I'm sure it will help you, too. You can see more info on my website www.beautychic007.com

Try going on Boost or Ensure Plus only for awhile. Best would be 2 weeks, but as long as you can stand it. For meds try the always wonderful prednesone and flagyl combo.

Get a GI doc and investigate gettting on a biologic like humira or remicade. It keeps my CD from flaring up.

You should see a doctor. I was diagnosed 11 years ago when I lived in South Florida. My gastroenterologist was Dr. Vito Procia in Boca Raton, he was/is amazing. I've had this dz for 11 years and still don't know exactly what to do when I flare, but I generally have to get a lot of rest, eat gluten free, dairy free, no sugar, and fairly bland until it passes.
I hope you feel well soon or are feeling well already.

Hi Scottie, I am new to your blog. this is the first time I have read it. I'll have to read more. Anyway, you wrote in your post,"Anyone have any recommendations on either pulling out of a Crohn's Disease Flare up or a good gastroenterologist in the Boca Raton area?" I don't know any docs there in boca raton. But I do have something that helps me out when I feel a flare up is comming. it helps me everytime without fail. Have you read, Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall B.A., M.Sc.? It outlines a dietary plan based on Homemade Yogurt. This diet is call The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. You can find out some more information on it at:http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/, or you could google SCD Diet. Every time I feel a flare up, I will make this Yogurt and the next day after eating it, I feel great. Cramps wil be gone, bloody stools will stop. This book can be picked up or ordered at any book store its ISBN is 0-9692768-1-8. give it a try it has changed my life for the better.
