The Brits Announce Bacteria in Cows Milk Likely Cause of Crohn's Disease

Scientists at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, have discovered a certain type of bacteria in cattle as a likely cause for Crohn's disease in human beings. The bacteria, called Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, are known to cause the debilitating Johne's disease in cattle. It is believed the bacteria are transferred from cows to humans via milk and dairy product consumption. The British scientists have been able to observe reactions caused by the bacteria in the human body that could tap it as a cause for Crohn's disease. This could open up new ways for finding more effective treatment options for Crohn's.
Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammation of the intestines. Patients suffering from Crohn's disease experience pain, bleeding, and diarrhea. If medical treatment options are not successful, relieve can often only be found through the removal of the effected part of the intestines. Similarly, Johne's disease in cattle causes severe diarrhea. As a result of the disease cattle usually slowly perishes. While the cause of Johne's disease has been known, until now there had been no known cause for Crohn's disease. It has been most recently theorized that Crohn's (not Chrones, chrons, or chron's) disease is genetically linked. The British Scientists now seem to be able to explain how the presence of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis in a patient's body can cause Crohn's disease.
It has long been known that patients suffering from Crohn's disease have a higher than usual level of E.coli bacteria in their body. Similarly, Mycobacterium paratuberculosis has been known to be present in Crohn's disease tissue. But until now, nobody has been able to explain the bacteria's presence and connection to the disease. Now the British scientists have been able to observe that the bacteria, Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, inhibit the body's immune system response to E.coli bacteria.
Mycobacterium paratuberculosis discharges a mannose-containing molecule. Mannose is a type of sugar. This molecule stops macrophages, a type of white blood cells, from destroying E.coli bacteria in the patient's body. The increased level of E.coli bacteria weakens the immune systems response to other intestinal bacteria, including Mycobacterium paratuberculosis.
The scientists also determined that the bacteria could cause an increase in a circulating antibody protein (ASCA). Two-thirds of Crohn's disease patients have this type of protein indicating a likely infection with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis.
Clinical trials are planned to seek out treatment options through an antibiotic combination, which is aimed at eliminating Mycobacterium paratuberculosis in a Crohn's disease patient's body. If the scientists' assumption is correct, the disease should subside with the elimination of the bacteria.

Keep up the good work! They found crohn when I was 11. I'm now 23 and in another flare up. I've also had an allergic reaction to remicade and now I'm getting humira to, accompanied by "Medrol" (cortisone, I don't know how it's called in English). I found that Crohn also changed my life in a positive way, so I'm still staying positive! (I'm a cameraman for different national Belgium television stations) Thanks for the blog and let the cure come to us!

I agree that this may be true. I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease for 17 years now. Had major Surgery in 2003 and many issues since. About 6 months ago I stopped consuming Milk Products otehr then a little bit of cheese and Yogurt. Since then I have had a much lower incident of issues. On top of that I continue to take 50mg of 6mp.

Actually this is interesting, if this bacteria can be caught it could transfer the ability to produce this manose based molecule to other bacteria.

What may be needed is something that can stop transfer of bacterial genetic material

You are looking for a cure from the same people who caused the disease in yourselves. Taking another antibiotic in an attempt to kill a possible unwanted bacterium is simply MORE of the process which created the imbalance. A cure for Crohn's is simple and has been known to my knowledge for more than 30 years. It is this.
The bowel has more than 400 friendly bacterium in a healthy balance; upsetting this balance will allow unwanteds to thrive. You then eat for the imbalanced bacterium - because they want feeding (not the other way around). So, this is simply one of the many diseases that can result from dysbiosis. You cannot fix this with diet or pharmaceuticals - you simply cannot. You must eliminate all flora, good and bad, in a CONTROLLED way. You must then substitute with good flora - try Natren Bifidus and Bulgaricum, combined with psyllium and a small amount of chlorella. Get the help of a qualified Naturopath who specialises in Probiotics to walk you through this process. It will be specific for you depending upon genetics/history/iridology. Must do's are antifungal/antiparasitics in both chinese herbals and western. The western will have St Mary's Thistle, Pau D'arco, Golden Seal and citrus extracts as a minimum. Use garlic in a blender with fresh raw greens & water regularly throughout the transition - drink it. You will need a strong B complex (because they are made in intestines) and heaps of Vit C with Bioflavs with the friut you take once you have re-established normal flora.
A word of caution - you will likely fail to re-establish a normal flora balance in a person with mercury amalgams in their mouth. This is because mercury in the intestines is buffered by fungi. You must not eliminate bad flora if you have mercury amalgam fillings - you will need to embark upon a program of amalgam removal and heavy metal detox before attempting any elimination of flora. This does not stop you from supporting you existing flora balance with good flora through the process.
FOOD. A bifidogenic diet will be required to assist the growth of healthy flora. Look up Alkaline foods, switch your salt to a good quality sea salt, eliminate all dairy esp milk and cheese, along with all bread and the top three volume items in your current diet.
