Humira, Humira

It's time for a Humira (Adalimumab) shot folks. For me a Humira shot means some brief pain, followed by a night of good Crohn's disease sweats, and then hopefully a few good days. My Crohn's has been pretty good...mostly overshadowed by soccer injuries. Pinched nerve in the neck and bad left knee. We won last night 14-10 indoor...and lost tonight 3-2 at Red Bug (but we played awesome). Time to finish my beer and then have Amy give me my shot.

By the way...it seems I have picked up some readers (shout out to Seattle) of this blog and I am thankful. I might not have the most exciting posts, but I do like to follow the stories and blogs of people with Crohn's. So if you are reading this sometimes or a return visitor...leave me a message. It makes me feel good.

Hi there, I'm starting Humira on Monday. Been taking pentasa for my Crohns and painkillers for my A.S so looking forward to a life of no tablets!

Anything nasty happened to you on the Humira? The endless list of potential side effects bugs me a bit!!!!

cheers

Nick

I'm smiling about the soccer pain overshadowing the Crohn's pain. I ran a 25K this past summer and I forgot about the Crohn's for a couple of hours then. I also had a kidney stone overshadow the Crohn's pain for awhile - not a good substitute!

Hey Nick -
I have only had positive experiences with Humira so far. The shots sting a bit, and I still get night sweats bad, but no real side effects. The weakened immune system/succeptibility to cancer definitely scares me too though. Have you had your first injections yet? Did you have to get 4 the first time?

Well the Humira got delivered ok, but apparently I have to have a nurse present for the first shot in case I react to the stuff. But I cant get a nurse for 2 weeks!! so the stuff sits there in the fridge whilst I keep poppin the pills. Crazy!

1st shot yesterday. I used the pen. Stung for about 10 secs and then everythin was ok again. No ill effects yet! And I'm sure my A.S has eased a bit, no Crohns probs yet either but they want me to keep taking the pentasa for the time being. looking forward to a holiday in Florida soon myself, we alaways come out and drop down to the Keys for a couple of weeks. I'd love to live there permanetly as I find the weather really helps my A.S out, I go scuba diving!!!!!

Unfortunately living in the UK means that will probably never happen :(
